Hunting & Fishing
Anglers looking for a fishing hole can look no further than Tupelo’s closest state parks. Trace State Park provides 565 acres of freshwater stocked with bass, catfish, redear, bluegill, and crappie. The park also has camping areas, water skiing, boat rentals, launch ramps, paddle boats, and horse trails. History buffs will love the fact that Davy Crockett once called Trace State Park home when he lived there as a horse trader with the Chickasaw Native Americans. Similarly, Tombigbee State Park’s lake is great for fishing and the park also has nature trails, tennis courts, disc golf, an archery range, and more. Elvis Presley Lake is a recently renovated 322-acre state fishing lake. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, redear, sunfish, catfish, and shad.
RECREATIONAL SPORTS
Tupelo is home to both traditional and non-traditional sports facilities that are among the best in the state. From baseball and soccer fields at BankPlus Sportsplex to softball fields and the 43,665-square-foot Tupelo Aquatic Center in Veterans Park, the city has something for every athlete. Tupelo recently opened Dot Cooper Kelly Park which features 12 lighted pickleball courts open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
CYCLING
Whether cycling the Natchez Trace Parkway’s 444 miles or exploring the Music Bend Nature Trail on your bicycle, the city offers great opportunities to explore the outdoors on two wheels. The Elvis’ Tupelo Self-Guided Bicycle Tour is a fun way to learn more about places that were important to young Elvis’ formative years in Tupelo, from the comfort of your bicycle.
